machineryofmelancholia:
Well, in my opinion, 9th is the coolest doctor.
Christopher Eccleston had the hardest task any actor portraying The Doctor could have. He had to revive the whole series after 9 years of inactivity (and almost 20 from TV series) and make it feel still fresh and new. Also, he had to make the audience aware that he’s not the first nor the last Doctor.
When I first started watching the new series, I thought 9th had a deep comical element, but halfway through season 1, his hilarity, persistent irony and sometimes sarcastic behaviour told me more about his history and background plot that any other Doctor’s personal traits. He reminds me of the 4th Doctor in terms of emotional depth.
Informal behaviour reflected in his way of talking and his clothing. 9th quest was more personal than universal.
His grim jokes and unpredictable sense of (black) humour reflects the deeply saddened man behind the Doctor’s personality. Ridden with a sense of guilt for losing everything he loved, this feeling also makes him want to grow as a person and as a Timelord.
In my personal opinion, 9th is the most human and deeply loving incarnation of The Doctor, without leaving behind the traditional flamboyancy of his past incarnations. 9th wanted people to grow through their actions, and learn from them. 9th was a learner and enabler, making people work for their personal good and learning. I see 9th as a teacher more than a central hero, and that’s why I love him, as a character and as a friend that I’ll never meet.
Fantastic!
